S.L.Bhyrappa is one of the foremost Indian novelists writing in "Kannada" one of the Indian languages. Author of more than twenty five novels.four volumes of literary criticism and an autobiography.Dr.Bhyrappa is a major voice in the Indian Literary scene. Vamsa Vriksha,Daatu,Saakshi are some of his important novels. Recipient of Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award (twice),Sahitya Akademi Award and Pumpa Award from Govt of Karnataka.Dr.Bhyrappa represented India on several literary asssignments in various and parts of the world. K.Raghavendra Rao,the translator of this novel was a Professor of Political Science.He has published a number of books in English and Kannda.

The Mahabharata you never knew

A brilliant work. Probably Bhyrappa's best work. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that this is one of the all time best novels of Kannada. The epic Mahabharata is retold giving it an unbelievably realistic touch and completely removing the mythical element. This novel changed my very perspective of the whole story of Mahabharata, the characters and of course the battle of Kurukshetra. Thank you, Bhyrappa.

Radical Views on an epic

This book presents one of the great epics of Indian Culture "The Mahabharatha" in a radical perspective. I have read other interpretive versions of Mahabharatha and related mythology, but nothing comes as close to a feasible, realistic explanation as Parva. The extensive research undertaken by the author to gather geographical and socialogical facts has shown itself in the development and reasoning of the story. I would rate this as one of the top 10 books in Kannada or in any other language.

This is Mahabharatha retold, just brilliant

This is one of Bhairappa very well known novels. This changed my very imaginations of Mahabhartha, only for better. There are very few works today of this calibre. You will find great insight, consciousness and honesty in this book, which narrates Mahabharatha as though it is happening in front of your eyes. Its philosophical depth, reason and power can blow you off. I am proud to have come across this book and a writer of Bhairappa's quality.
